If it’s your first time to create a Gmail account, start by creating a Google account that will also allow you to create your own Gmail account. Here are the steps that you need to follow:
Sign up Procedure to create an Account
- Go to the Gmail website and choose Create accounts
- From here, you’ll be redirected to the Google account signup page where you’ll be asked to provide some information like your name, gender, address and birthdate. Don’t worry because all these details are kept confidential under Google’s database.
- Click Next and you’ll be redirected to the phone verification page as part of Google’s two-step verification process. Provide your phone number and a code will be sent to you. Key it in the box and click Verify.
- From the same signup page, you’ll also be asked to choose a name for your Gmail address. Make sure that it’s unique, so your address won’t have any duplicates. You’ll also be asked to provide more personal information including an optional recovery email address. From here, click Next.
Understanding the Terms of Service
- You’ll be redirected to Google’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Read everything thoroughly to understand what’s included in your account and if you don’t have any concerns, click “I Agree.”
- Your Google and Gmail account will now be created, and you have to choose a strong password to make sure that it won’t be accessed by anyone who can get your personal information or use your account for fraudulent activities.

First time Signing In
- If it’s your first time to sign in to your account, go to Gmail’s website and type your email address and password, then click Next.
- If you forgot your password, just click “Forgot Password” and you’ll be redirected to a page with instructions on how you can retrieve your password. One option would be to provide your email address where you’ll be sent a link to reset your password.
- Another option would be through your phone number where you’ll be sent a code to reset your password. Either way, it’s very important that both your recovery email address and phone numbers are working, so you won’t have any problems accessing your Gmail account.
Importance of Logging Out
- After using your Gmail account, it’s advisable that you log out, especially if you’re accessing it from your mobile device or another laptop. To log out, simply click the circle with your name and photo on the top right corner of the page and click “Sign Out.”
